“Alley Cat” Performed By Bent Fabric (1962)

May 25, 2014

#2 AC, #7 Pop, #1 Austrailia :-)

I heard this song song on Muzak somewhere last week and it is stuck in my head. Finally had time to post about it today, since it fits in right with my intrumental Theme.

It is amazing how this tune sticks with you even though there are no words to sing. I just keep humming the melody over and over again. I also remember singing along to this on Muzak as an 8 year old little me. Hearing this takes me back and makes me smile.

grammy-gold-iconDoes it make you smile too?

This song was written and recorded by Danish pianist Bent  Fabricius-Bjerre: He wrote it under the pseudonym Frank Björn.

“Alley Cat” won the 1962 Grammy for Best Rock and R0ll Recording. Strange category for the song IMHO — but at least it got recognition.

Looking back, it’s amazing the tunes that were honored as Billboard’s top rock and roll songs. I would have expected the top ’62 song to be Soldier Boy, Mashed Potato Time, Only Love Can Break Your Heart, Palisades Park. But Alley Cat is catchy and the song lingers in your brain. Thanks for bringing it back.

My pleasure beltwaybob. I was grateful when I heard it two weeks ago for the first time in many years.
Nothing like sharing the great oldies with those who can appreciate them.
Have a great week.
