“Wonderland By Night” Performed by Bert Kaempfert & His Orchestra (1961)

May 4, 2014

Happy Happy May 2014!

#1 Pop, #5 R&B

I just heard this fabu song on Sirius radio and was transported back to a place in time that was happy and carefree.  Since I am listening online I immediately came to OSML to post and share making the theme for this month great instrumental golden oldies. :-)

I remember songs like this as “Doctor’s Office Music” because little asthmatic me had frequent doctor visits and this type of MOR “Beautiful Music” was always playing the the waiting rooms. As an adult I now understand why it was called “Beautiful Music” on the AM radio stations.

number1“Wonderland By Night” is the first track on the YouTube Video posted above. This song was Bert’s first with his Orchestra and was a hit right off the bat!

Louis Prima covered the tune the same year and took his version to #15 Pop.

Anita Bryant also covered the tune with vocals the same year and took the track to 18. You can find it on YouTube if you would like to check it out.  I am not a fan of hers so I opt not to share her cover here.

Have a great week Old School Music Lovers.

Musically Yours,

SonDan

Interestingly, when I did a report on German contributions to American top 40 music, this was the number one song. Lolita’s Sailor was #2. Don’t remember the rest. A much better musical number than Theme From a Summer Place.
