“Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” Performed By B.J. Thomas (1969) and Burt Bacharach

March 24, 2014

“Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” was the top grossing film of 1969. This Western co-starred two of the handsomest leading men of the time — Paul Newman and Robert Redford! If you haven’t seen this classic you need to do so asap. You won’t regret it.

The movie not only won an Oscar for best Screenplay but on the musical tip “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head,” composed by Hal David and Burt Bacharach, won the Oscar for 1969 Best Original Song.  In addition Burt Bachrach won the 1969 Best Oscar for Original Score for a Motion Picture (not a Musical) for the film” Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid“. (Weren’t Burt and Angie a fab couple? And Barbara McNair was gorgeous!)

BJ Thomas recorded  the song for the film and had a number one record with it around the globe. Naturally with such a great song other pop artists of the era, including Andy Williams, Dionne Warwick, Johnny Mathis and others, recorded cover versions of the track. My favorites are of course B.J.s original and Dionne Warwick’s: Dionne just has a special way with any Bacharach composition.

Last but not least, here is the composer himself, Burt Bacharach, performing his award winning musical creation. Enjoy.

Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head Composed by Burt Bachrach & Hal David

Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin’ seems to fit
Those raindrops are fallin’ on my head, they keep fallin’

So I just did me some talkin’ to the sun
And I said I didn’t like the way he got things done
Sleepin’ on the job
Those raindrops are fallin’ on my head, they keep fallin’

But there’s one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me won’t defeat me
It won’t be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turnin’ red
Cryin’s not for me
‘Cause I’m never gonna stop the rain by complainin’
Because I’m free
Nothin’s worryin’ me

[trumpet]

It won’t be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turnin’ red
Cryin’s not for me
‘Cause I’m never gonna stop the rain by complainin’
Because I’m free
Nothin’s worryin’ me
