“Stand by Your Man” Performed by Tammy Wynette (1968) & Candi Staton (1971)

Here is  Miss Tammy Wynette performing her 1968 #1 Country Single “Stand By Your Man.” This original rendition also charted #19 on the Billboard Top 100 in 1968.

number1

This iconic song has been covered so many times by both country and pop artists , that co-writers Wynette and Billy Sherrill should be rolling in royalties forever and ever. Amen. :-)

There have been popular covers in later decades of “Stand By You Man,” but it was Miss Candi Staton’s #4 R&B charting cover version that I was a big fan of when it was released in 1972.

“Stand By Your Man” Composed by Tammy Wynette & Billy Sherrill

Sometimes it’s hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man
You’ll have bad times
And he’ll have good times
Doin things that you don’t understand
But if you love him
You’ll forgive him
Even though he’s hard to understand
And if you love him
Oh, be proud of him
Cause after all he’s just a man

Stand by your man
Give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
when nights are cold and lonely

Stand by your man
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your man

Stand by your man
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your man
