“Give Us Land” sung by Harry Belafonte.
“The Train Song (Mbombela)” Duet performed by Harry Belafonte & Miriam Makeba.
This studio album is the first I have blogged about, in the history of OSML, that I have never heard! After listening to the tracks I can understand why this collection was awarded the Grammy in 1965 and suggest that you too become the proud owner of this collection of folk songs. Even though I don’t know the language of the lyrics … the feelings have been communicated and the music is hauntingly beautiful.
I first heard singer/activist Miriam Makeba’s music when her 1957 South African single “Pata Pata” was released here in the US in 1967! I loved that track.
But thanks to my blogging hobby I have now discovered this award winning gem of an album and intend to do a little more research for other music I have not heard recorded by both Miss Makeba and Mr. Belafonte.
