“I’m Henery VIII, I Am” Performed By Herman’s Hermits (1965)

April 30, 2012

#1 Week of 8/7/1965

In May of 1965 Herman’s Hermits’ single “Mrs Brown You’ve got a Lovely Daughter,” spent three weeks at number one on the US music charts.

In this video the British Invasion Band are performing, on the 6/6/1965 Ed Sullivan Show , what would be their next US Number 1 hit of 1965. “I’m Henery the VIII, I Am” was an  oft covered ditty, composed by Fred Murray and R. P. Weston: it is a traditional 1910 British music hall song.

Obviously meant as a sing along,  the words were easy to learn and everyone knew them by heart. This 11 year old did.  Did you?

Lyric -
I’m Henery the Eighth, I am,
Henery the Eighth I am, I am!
I got married to the widow next door,
She’d been married seven times before.
And every one was an Henery
It wouldn’t be a Willie or a Sam
I’m her eighth old man named Henery
Henery the Eighth, I am!

Musically Yours,
