“Back In My Arms Again” Performed by The Supremes (1965)

April 9, 2012

5/11/1965

#1 R&B, #1 Pop, #40 UK

This was the fifth single released in a row,  by the formerly “No-Hit Supremes,” that topped the Billboard Pop Charts at #1 the week of June 6, 1965.  The video lipsynch performance above is the song’s national TV debut on “Hullabalo.”

Besides “American Bandstand” on Saturdays, “The Ed Sullivan Show” on Sundays, and “Shindig” on NBC Prime Time –”Hullabalo,” on ABC Prime Time,  was the only other place we got to see our favorite pop music performers back in the Sixties. “Hollywood Palace” came along too, but they never had the “groovier” guests that the prior mentioned TV shows did (except the J5 episode that really rocked!).

TRIVIA: If you give a listen you will clearly hear that the hook on “Back in My Arms Again”  is identical to the hook on The Isley Brothers’ hit “This Old Heart of Mine” – both composed by the then Motown writing team Holland-Dozier-Holland.

Musically Yours,
