Here’s a great song to start off the countdown to the New Year –” Happy New Year, Baby” performed by Johnny Otis & His Orchestra!

Otis was a pioneer in the early days of R&B. The History of Rock.com has a brief yet complete musical biography of Mr. Otis that you must read, to get to know this talent.

Born 90 years ago today, on December 28, 1921 (HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHNNY!), of Greek immigrants in California,  Ioannis Alexandres Veliotes made the decision to live his life as a Black man.

He has written, “As a kid I decided that if our society dictated that one had to be black or white, I would be black.” (See Footnote 7)

Mr. Otis, if you are reading this, we thank you deeply for your contributions to R&B and music in general.

Happy Holidays,
