#26 R&B, #29 Pop USA:  #3 UK

This sweet ballad is from rock legend’s Roy Orbison‘s third  label phase  — with Monument Records (he began as a Rockabilly singer on the famed Sun Label then moved to a short stint at RCA) .  I loved all phases of Orbison’s career – especially and particularly the last when he worked and performed with the super group Traveling Wilburys!

Orbison co-wrote this oft- covered classic, “Blue Bayou” with Joe Melton. The duo also composed “Only The Lonely” and Crying.”

Linda Ronstadt’s cover version bested the original in that it won two Grammy Nominations in 1977: one for 1977 Record of the Year and one for  the 1977 Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female. The nominations were surely deserved: Linda has a voice that can send shivers up your spine.

Linda even performed her hit with The Muppets — with passion and class!  (Speaking of the Muppets I just saw their new movie and enjoyed it to pieces. IT IS A MUST SEE FOR ALL AGES!)

Great sounds — aren’t they?

Musically Yours,
