“Tiptoe Through The Tulips” Performed By Nick Lucas (1929) and Tiny Tim (1968)

October 17, 2011

Born Domenic Antonio Nicola Lucalese, Nick Lucas became known as “The Crooning Troubadour.”  Nick introduced “Tiptoe Through the Tulips, composed by Al Dubin and Joe Burke, in the 1929 motion picture “Gold Diggers of Broadway.”

The song topped the music charts at #1 for ten weeks!

Tiny Tim‘s 1968 cover of “Tiptoe Through The Tulips” charted #17 . Tiny (born Herbert Buckingham Khaury) first received worldwide notice when he appeared on Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In show. This very tall dude singing in falsetto and accompanying himself on the ukelele was a novelty smash in the late Sixties!

I remember Tiny very well. I even enjoyed his visits on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show and the Howard Stern Show back in the day. I was never sure if Tiny was “putting on” or not but he surely was entertaining.

Musically Yours,
