After enjoying Nat King Cole’s smooth croon to “Lazy Hazy Crazy Day of Summer” I was in the mood for a bit more of King Cole. Here he is singing the Tin Pan Alley classic “In The Good Old Summertime“ composed by George “Honey Boy” Evans (music) and Ren Shields (lyrics) in 1902.
“In The Good Old Summertime” appeared on the 1963 LP entitled “Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer” that contained 10 other turn of the century type tunes.
Quite appropriately “In The Good Old Summertime” was used in the 1949 film musical of the same name that was set at the turn of the century. Here is a vintage trailer from the film that starred Judy Garland and Van Johnson.
TRIVIA. That is Garland’s three-year-old daughter Liza Minnelli walking between her mother and Van Johnson during the first scene shown in the trailer!
Hope you are enjoying your summer!
