This has got to be one of the grooviest summer songs ever written. I mean who would have ever thought to create a pop acapella song with a harpsichord background! Why a group of church singers of course (LOL).

Brother and sister Tom and Serena Jameson, Jeannie Ray and Arthur Blair made  up The Jamies. Tom named the group after his last name. He also was co-writer on the twice released and twice charting  one-hit- wonder for the group.

That’s Serena on lead vocal. Isn’t she just awesome? And the four-part harmony rocks IMHO.

If I had founded a group and had to have just one hit then this would surely be the one. It sticks in you head when you hear it. I must have played it about thirty times in a row while preparing this post and have been humming it ever since I decided to post it here at Old School Music Lover one day at work last week

”Summertime, Summertime” Composed by Tom Jameson and Sherman Feller

It’s summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime,
Summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime,
Summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime,
Summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime,
Summertime!

Well, shuck them books and throw ’em away.
Say goodbye to dull school days.
Look alive and change your ways.
It’s summertime!

Well, no more studyin’ history,
And no more reading geography,
And no more dull geometry,
Because it’s summertime.

It’s time to head straight for The Mills.
It’s time to live and have some thrills.
Come along and have a ball,
A regular free-for-all.

Well, are you comin’ or are you ain’t?            <—- my favorite line!
You slowpokes are my one complaint.
Hurry up before I faint.
It’s summertime!

Well, I’m so happy that I could flip.
Oh, how I love to take a trip.
I’m sorry, teachers, but zip your lip,
Because it’s summertime.

It’s time to head straight for The Mills.
It’s time to live and have some thrills.
Come along and have a ball,
A regular free-for-all

Well, we’ll go swimmin’ every day.
No time to work, just time to play.
If your folks complain, just say,
“It’s summertime!”

And every night we’ll have a dance,
’Cause what’s a vacation without romance?
Oh man, this jive has me in a trance,
Because it’s summertime.

It’s time to head straight for The Mills.
It’s time to live and have some thrills.
Come along and have a ball,
A regular free-for-all

It’s summertime!

It’s summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime,
Summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime,
Summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime,
Summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime,
Summertime!

It’s summertime.

Please enjoy the music and your summer,
