Now that Papa has danced the Polka to the sounds of Doris Day in Monday’s post — let’s have Papa do the Mambo to the warm vocals of Perry Como with Mitch Ayres and his Orchestra and The Ray Charles Chorus. ;-)

“Papa Loves Mambo” was composed by Al Hoffman, Dick Manning and  Bix Reichner and Como took the tune to #4 on the charts in 1954. The song has since become a standard pop classic.

In addition to “Catch a Falling Star”, “Papa Loves Mambo” is one of my favorite Perry Como tunes.  Listening to it while preparing for this post immediately took me back to a warm memory of watching “The Perry Como Show” in the safety of my grandmother’s lap (Sing to me, Mr. C. Sing to Me.)

Just one of the many reasons that  oldies are the best!

Musically Yours,
