“Stop, In The Name of Love” Performed by The Supremes and More (1965)

April 21, 2011

The Beatles had the number one hit song for two weeks in March 1965 with “Eight Days a Week.”  But the Brit VS Motown battle for 1965 pop supremacy raged on when The Supremes snatched back the top spot away from the Beatles the week of March 27 with their 5th  number one Pop confection “Stop! In the Name of Love.”

“The Girls” version stayed at the #1 spot for two weeks.  (Wonder why it only made it to #2 R&B?)

Check out my January 15, 2009 post on SITNOL to listen to the original version of “Stop, In The Name of Love”  and an alternate take that I am quite fond of. Next you can listen to the two  Motown labelmates of The Supremes that recorded the tune trying for another hit with it (You know how Gordy operated LOL)

Musically Yours,
