“High Hopes” Performed By Frank Sinatra (1959)

March 21, 2011

In a repeat of the 1957 Oscar to the Best Original Song in a movie – the 1959 Award went to another  James Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn collaboration  that was introduced by the film performance of  “The Voice”  Frank Sinatra.

“High Hopes” is  from the Frank Capra directed comedy “A Hole In The Head” starring Sinatra, Edward G. Robinson and Eleanor Parker. I watched this film many times on Saturday or Sunday afternoons on TV.  I recall thinking at the time what a cool Dad Frank was in the film. If the film is new to you, check  out this trailer and you might want to give it a screening. I know watching this trailer makes me want to see it again. :-)

A then Democratic supporter, Sinatra sang a version of “High Hopes” with new lyrics, as the campaign song for John F. Kennedy’s Presidential campaign in 1960.

Musically Yours,
