“What Kind Of Fool Am I” Performed By Anthony Newley & Sammy Davis Jr. (1962)

February 17, 2011

“What Kind of Fool Am I” is a song  from the early Sixties musical “Stop the World – I Want to Get Off ” composed by Leslie Bricusse and composer, singer, actor Anthony Newley.

The song won the 1962 Grammy for Song of the Year for the composers Briscusse and Newley. Naturally Anthony Newley sang the show stopper song in his own musical but his recording wasn’t a big hit: it peaked at #85 on the Billboard Top 100 chart.

Here is Newley performing the song live on the “Hollywood Palace” variety show of the era.

This is the master of  “What Kind of Fool Am I” — performing it live here is Mr. Sammy Davis Junior! No one does this song better than Sammy. NO ONE PERIOD.  Sammy’s version charted #6 AC  #17 Pop. Please enjoy the genius that is Mr. Davis.
