Produced by Norman Whitfield, “Winter Wonderland by the Funk Brothers is truly funky. I don’t know when it was recorded,  but it would have to be sometime in the sixties when Whitfield was producing at Motown‘s Detroit location since the Brothers didn’t make the move to Los Angles in 1972.  (Please write in via the comment section if you know the recording date)

To my knowledge this instrumental track  was first released on a Motown Holiday Collection in 1993 and has appeared on other collections since. Someone must have liberated this one from the infamous “Vault.” ;-)

It’s a great instrumental track, from the Motown Golden Era, that any of their artists could have sang over and it would have been a holiday hit and probably did.

This is a great tune to wind down from your holiday clean-up while maintaining the spirit of Christmas in your heart.

Musically Yours,

I’ve just found it! I was looking for the “original release” and recording date myself for this song (OK, it’s June by now, I know). Apparently it was recorded in 1965, according to this site/blog: http://lgcmusic02.blogspot.com/2011/02/1965-winter-wonderland-instrumental.html

Oh, the instrumental version was recorded in 1968! There are two versions. A mono mix (1965) and a stereo mix (1968) (instrumental).

Thank you so very much for the recording information Eva. I truly appreciate you taking time out of your schedule to let me know.
Now I just have to dig out my CD to read the liner notes so I know what version I posted ;-) Then I will be able to update my posts’ title with the correct date.
Thanks again for your assistance
