I have been in a instrumental smooth jazz mood lately and this particular version  of “The Christmas Song” is sounding mighty good to me right now.

It appears on a digital Holiday Collection I own entitled “The Original Soul Christmas” and many other Holiday Collections as well. Problem is,  since my version of from a digital collection I have no liner notes (ARGH — why can liner notes be added to digital lp downloads.: it would just be a simple text file and not a rocket science experiment!)  :-(.

This song was recorded in 1968. Many thanks to OSMLer Roy Simonds for providing me with the recording session date.

I am hoping that one of you Old School Music Lover readers can tell me when this was recorded so that I can put the year in my post title as I always do.

This was recorded by the uber talented Mr. Curtis Ousley, known as King Curtis,  a  Grammy Award winning tenor sax player.

Starting out in the mid-fifties as a session musician in New York in the mid  50s, he branched out into a successful solo career in the late 50s.

Curtis was murdered in 1971 as his career was expanding: he was only 37 years young at the time.

Musically Yours,
