“It’s Pony Time” Performed By Chubby Checker (1961)

September 27, 2010

My dad and I shared our love of music for all of his life. With my Mother our moments sharing music were few, but all memorable.

One of those moments was when my mother showed me how to do “The Pony”.  It was her favorite dance and she taught me saying it was so simple that anyone could do it.  ;-) Well I did it in the privacy of my bedroom and that was that (HAHAHA).

Here’s the great man himself, Chubby Checker, showing how to do “The Pony.”

A lot of great pop music has come out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA and Chubby Checker, born Earnest Evans, is one of those Philly greats. After a few misses on the charts, Chubby’s cover of the Hank Ballard & The Midnighters B-Side “The Twist” made him a pop superstar.

“It’s Pony Time” was the followup hit. “IPT” was the first of a string of songs Chubby recorded to dances:  some he made up like “The Fly” and others were already around like “The Limbo”.

There will be more Chubby to come here at OSML in the future.

Musically Yours,
