WB taps Spellman to write film based on showDon C Hosting Soul Train

By MICHAEL FLEMING

Warner Bros. has hired Malcolm Spellman to write a feature based on the classic TV show “Soul Train.”

Darryl Porter and Aaron Geller of Porter/Geller Prods. will produce with Don Cornelius, the host and producer of the famed show, which ran from 1971-2006.

Spellman said that he’s writing a film set in the 1980s.

See the VARIETY article in its entirety here.

I sure wish this was going to be set in the 1970s … but I’ll take what I can get ;-)

Aw sookie, sookie now (LOL). Afros and plaid pants. Love it. Thanks for the link SupaS. So many of those great Soul Train (and Temptations clips) come and go from YouTube. When I was transferring the blog data I notice quite a few videos had been removed over the past year. I will favorite this one, but think I shall save it too. PS. Did you see my plaid skirt and my daddy’s striped pants. Check my “About” page and you will see that we were watching Soul Train too back in the day!

I probably had on white tights SupaS. I had a thing for them for a while as I recall — who knows why? Probably was the style. I hope big plaids and stripes don’t come back anytime soon though (HAHAHA). And those wire rimmed “John Lennon” glasses – argh those wire frames would bend out of shape like no body’s business!

I saved that awesome Tempts videos and I am gonna spend some time this weekend saving as many “Soul Train” videos as I can. It may be a while before they ever get to the store on a DVD and I don’t want to have to wait to see resurface after YouTube gets around to deleting them again.

As always, great chatting with you.

Hugs!

Yipee! I found the new network CENTRIC on my Direct TV today while looking for a movie to watch while uploading music for this blog. Saw “Soul Train” with Al Green and Mel & Tim as guests. And to my surprise AL Green was performing live and sounding great! He must be one of the very few artists (I remember Marvin Gaye and Stevie both doing live sets) who did not lip sync on “Soul Train!” Gosh this brought back so many memories.

And now I am watching a live performance by Isaac Hayes at the Montreux Jazz Festival! This station is totally awesome. Gotta go now to google it and see how it came about while listening to Hayes doing “Walk on By”. I’ll upload music tomorrow here for OSML (BIG GRIN)

Talk with you soon SupaS.

Great!! ive seen every episode so far execpt for the Tribute to Minnie. i only caught the end of that one. Since i kno you love Eddie you have to see the episode with Gladys and The Pips. Eddie’s in that one and he sings Its So Hard For Me To Say Goodbye and I Did It All For You. and a group i’ve neva heard of called the Honey Cones. they jus got a new fan because i loved both of their performances and i will get those song on my ipod. i LOVED that episode wit Al! he was (and still is) such a cutie! i felt like that one girl who got shy when she was about to ask him a question and whe he started to sing to her during For The Good Times LOL

SupaS,
I won’t be home this Saturday but next Saturday I will park in front of the TV as long as I can until I see an episode of classic “Soul Train.” Now I have something to look forward too. I might even have to finally bring my recording habits into the 21st century and start saving pennies to purchase a DVD recorder since I can’t locate blank VHS tapes for my recorder/player any more. omg, i didnt kno there was such a thing lol i feel so slow! i should get one of those too. we have some many VHS tapes but nobody really uses VCR’s any more (and ours dont work lol) since i see we have DVD recorders now, i should look for a VHS converter or somethin like that lol

I thought I was the only one behind the times without a DVD recorder! I too have literally hundreds of VHS tapes and hundreds of Beta tapes as well! One day I want to convert them to DVD but I don’t have the $ right now. That is a task for my wish list along with converting all of my Vinyl to digital.
