Jazz singer Nancy Wilson treated for a collapsed lung

April 17, 2008

As you may be aware, it was reported on March 31st, that the beautiful and talented jazz singer Nancy Wilson was hositalized for treatment of a collapsed lung.

“A spokeswoman for the 71-year-old Grammy-winning singer says she is expected to recover but will not be able to make a performance scheduled in Memphis, Tennessee next weekend. Devra Levy, wife of Wilson’s manager, John Levy, said Wilson’s lung was being reinflated at Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree, California.” (SOURCE)

Click on the source link above to see the remaining details of the announcement of Ms. Wilson’s hositalization in the Canadian Press. But I am so wondering why I have seen no follow-up on Ms. Wilson’s recovery in the American Press. I guess it is the same reason I have been unable to find any details on the passing of Luther Vandross’ beloved mother Mary Ida Vandross at about the same time. These are truly things that make you go hmmmm!

The only further mention of Ms. Wilson’s condition that I have come across is this:

Nancy Wilson Cancels Jazz Festival – by Paul Cashmere – April 8 2008

“Legendary jazz singer Nancy Wilson has now confirmed that she will not be able to come to Australia for Melbourne Jazz 2008.

Wilson was hospitalized last week with a collapsed lung. Her immediate work was cancelled. That has now extended to next month’s Australian visit. ” The remainder of the article can be found here.

I am sure that you all join me in wishing Ms. Wilson a speedy and complete recovery and hope that she is out and about performing real soon. Here is classic Nancy Wilson for your enjoyment.

I cannot believe this news about Nancy Wilson. My favorite artist and I haven’t heard a word about her being hospitalized until I read it here. I listen to black radio all the time and have not heard them mention Nancy Wilson was sick one time. I can’t believe how we can just forget about our legends and act like we have arrived without them. Nancy deserves to be given her flowers and her much long overdue tribute. Maybe Cathy Hughes is reading this, I hope so.

I must have played that first album of hers, the one with Cannonball Adderly, one million times. It was fantastic. It probably was the best thing she ever did. What a class act.

Hi Teresa,

I too find it a sad state on what the media (both black and white) feel is newsworthy. I have been searching and searching to find a followup on this story — and other than seeing that Ms. Wilson had to cancel some concerts I have seen nor heard NOTHING in the way of a follow-up on her health in any form of media.

The internet is priceless in helping us find out about the things we should know about … at least that is what I use it for.

Great to meet you and hope to hear from you soon.
