Detour on Stevie Wonder Way?Posted by JUSTIN ENGEL/THE SAGINAW NEWS December 03, 2007 22:08PM

Stevie Wonder Way — the proposed moniker to replace Johnson Street in Saginaw in honor of the music legend born here — hasn’t reached a dead-end, but it is detoured.

In August, officials at Saginaw radio station WTLZ-FM, 107, asked Saginaw City Council members to honors one of the city’s most famous offspring by renaming Johnson Street after the Saginaw-born music legend.

They wanted to call the road in front of TheDow Event Center Stevie Wonder Way.
The city’s Planning Commission turned down the proposal. But the street issue isn’t over.

Planners will consider an amended proposal to rename only the three blocks in front of the Event Center, from Washington to Weadock, when they meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, said Dave Maurer, operations manager for NextMedia Operating, parent of five radio stations, including WTLZ.
